What to look for in a device
FDA 510(k) clearance
Every clinical trial showing measurable hair growth used an FDA-cleared device. Skip anything without it.
650β680 nm wavelength
This is the specific range used in published studies. Devices outside this window may have no clinical backing.
Coverage & mobility
More diodes means better scalp coverage and shorter sessions. Look for a device that covers your full treatment area.

Frequently Asked Questions
How to choose a full-body red light panel
Not all red light panels deliver the same therapeutic range. The wavelengths a panel emits determine which biological processes it can reach and at what depth. Here is what each zone does and what to look for.
Wavelength zones explained
Amber Β· 590nm
Skin renewal zone
Targets the outer layers of skin. Clinical research at this wavelength has shown measurable improvements in skin elasticity and appearance. Not commonly available in standing panels.
Red Β· 630β670nm
Skin renewal zone
Penetrates outer skin layers to support circulation, collagen production, and skin vitality. The most studied range in photobiomodulation research. Most panels include at least one wavelength here; look for 660nm as the core therapeutic wavelength.
Near-Infrared Β· 810β940nm
Energy and recovery zone
Penetrates deeper than red light, reaching muscle, joint, and cellular tissue. Supports mitochondrial energy production and post-exercise recovery.
Deep NIR Β· 1060nm
Energy and recovery zone
The deepest-penetrating wavelength available in consumer panels. Targets muscle and joint tissue for temporary pain relief and circulation support. Fewer brands include it; check the spec sheet before buying if deep tissue recovery is your primary goal.
6 things to check before you buy
How many wavelengths does it have?
More wavelengths means broader therapeutic coverage. A 2-wavelength panel covers the basics. A 7β8 wavelength panel adds amber, multiple NIR frequencies, and deep NIR, each targeting different tissue depths.
Does it include deep NIR (1060nm)?
1060nm is the deepest-penetrating wavelength in this category. Not included in every panel at this price tier. If muscle recovery and joint support are your primary goals, verify this wavelength is present before buying.
What is the warranty coverage?
At $1,000+, warranty length matters. Industry standard is 3 years. A panel that fails in year 4 with no coverage is a significant loss. Check whether the warranty covers the full device or components only.
What are the actual return terms?
A 60-day trial is not the same across brands. Some charge a 20% restocking fee on returns. On a $1,200 panel that is $240 you do not get back. Check the refund policy page directly, not just the marketing copy.
Does the irradiance figure use a spectrometer?
Consumer solar meters read the full light spectrum and produce higher numbers. Professional spectrometers isolate only the therapeutic wavelengths and produce lower, more accurate readings. The figures are not directly comparable across brands.
Can you control individual wavelengths?
Entry-level panels offer a single on/off switch. Mid-tier panels allow red and NIR to be toggled independently. Advanced panels let you control each wavelength individually and set custom pulse frequencies.
